Hyflex Course Redesign model Presentation

Dr. Brian Beatty is Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs Operations at San Francisco State University (SFSU). He oversees the Academic Technology unit and coordinates the use of technology in the academic programs across the university. He works closely with IT professionals and executive leaders in other units to coordinate overall information technology strategic management at SFSU. His primary areas of interest and academic research include social interaction in online learning and developing instructional design theory for hybrid learning environments. At SFSU as a tenured faculty member of the Instructional Technologies department, Dr. Beatty pioneered the development and evaluation of the HyFlex course design model for blended learning environments, implementing a “student-directed-hybrid” approach to better support student learning. Dr. Beatty has extensive experience teaching at the secondary as well as post-secondary level. Dr. Beatty has worked professionally as an e-learning instructional designer and project manager since 2000, holding several full and part time positions in several companies. He has led the design and development of dozens of corporate e-learning and academic online courses, presented his work at many professional conferences, and written several book chapters and journal articles in the instructional technology, instructional design and e-learning fields.

Kenji Ikemoto MA. Ed. is an Instructional Designer on the Teaching and Learning with Technology team of the Academic Technology division at San Francisco State University (SF State). He supports faculty in designing and implementing instructional solutions using campus technologies, develops and delivers faculty professional development resources and events, and coordinates campus initiatives for Quality Online Learning and Teaching (QOLT) and Course Redesign with Technology (CRT). Kenji has also worked as a lecturer at SF State in the Recreation, Parks, and Tourism department. He has experience coordinating K-12 school programs at the Asian Art Museum and as an English teacher in Japan.
